catholic church and vocations
May I say that in parts of the Catholic Church that unless some of the priests and therefore the laity’s attitudes towards the Church and Her Sacraments change, vocations will be few and far between. Of course, this will not sit well with priests and laity alike. Let me therefore ask you a simple question, "If the priests are not busy with spiritual things on behalf of Jesus why then is there a shortage of priests?"
Let us face the facts; the Catholic Church in huge parts of its territories is nothing more than a giant secular management organization with the priests as a glorified (in the secular meaning) estate managers or a shop supervisors. The priest in many parishes worry, as a seminary professor told me, more about broken urinals, leaky roofs and the upkeep of the grounds.
Read the Creed and especially the doxology it ends with. "I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Holy Catholic Church, the Communion of saints, the Forgiveness of Sins, the Resurrection of the Body and Life Everlasting". No mention of the Eucharist there and yet before you correct me, there is no mention of the Eucharist anywhere in the Creed and any right thinking mind will readily admit the Eucharist is mentioned by the belief in Christ, and the Church is the Mystical Body of Christ.
If the Priest is not busy in the Confessional, if there are over 50 souls in his parish over the age of reason and he hears less than 10% confess a week is he busy enough to need help for his spiritual work. I mean the work he is supposed to do in helping us to reach heaven. Then what does God see? Does God see the priest is worn out doing spiritual work and needs help to apply the Sacraments? Of course not and let no one tell me the offering of Eucharist tires him out and that the sacrifice of the mass forgives sins. Never in the History of the Church has it been taught the Eucharist forgives grave sin. It used to be that the words of the Latin “Indulgentiam” forgave venial sins. These words are are not there anymore and so we are taught a change in teachings. This was expressly forbidden in the homilies in the opening and closing masses of Vatican 2. That the Body of Christ forgives venial sins is a new teaching in the context of the Mass. This is part of the Spirit of Vatican 2 and any decent priest who has the gift of fortitude would drive a stake through that spirit.
Why waste your time praying for vocations start using the Sacraments and vocations will come.
