Be right in what you believe and do
I find, myself included, we often either skirt or jump right into and commit what might well be a sin of blasphemy. Gossip when unbridled can be an act of blasphemy. To deny the grace that sanctifies, and in fact in certain circumstances to claim holiness when it is not there in the form of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, may be the sin again.
Blasphemy is speaking against God in a contemptuous, scornful, or abusive manner, or making God an object of scorn. Included under blasphemy are offenses committed by thought, word, or action. Serious contemptuous ridicule of the saints, sacred objects, or of persons consecrated (anointed) to God is also blasphemous because God is indirectly attacked. Blasphemy is a grave violation of charity toward God. Its gravity may be judged by the capital punishment on the Old Testament, severe penalties of the Church, and in many cases also, of the State for blasphemous speech or conduct. In order for a person to sin gravely in this manner, he must use blasphemous expressions and realize the contemptuous meaning of what he says or does. We must I believe that denial of the Spirit’s works and holiness will be found upon examination an act of blasphemy.
How many times do we as catholic faithful contemptuously dismiss a priest or two because of their behavior? Is this action then blasphemy? Make no mistake due to circumstances of better education, it is possible we might find the man who is the priest wanting. We might even find a serious lack of formation on the part of a priest and we should offer a form of correction for the sake of the faithful. Be sure then of one’s facts. Examine yourself to see if in any way you have caused the priest to leave you alone, avoid you due to some trait of your personality.
The punishment for those who destroy the priest, the anointed one of God, acting as a priest, criticizing his efforts, puny though they might be, is laid out strongly in the Old Testament. But the priest, should beware, who does not save souls through the administration of the Church Sacraments, the rituals and proper liturgies has only himself to blame for the just rewards he will earn for either his efforts according to his abilities or according to his lack of spirituality towards his flock.
Destroying a priest by gossip and accusations that come from our egos is a sure route down into the Abyss. We must all be careful and I to a great extent must watch words and actions and to be sure of there source. For the filth of confusion can easily insert into our minds such dreadful and often unfounded facts. Facts that beggar the foundations of our true beliefs which the priest must teach.
