Is it a schism or a heresy
I have as usual received some stick from a priest or two full of the usual sacerdotal hubris saying to call the bread and wine the veil that hides the Body and Blood, the Soul and Divinity of Christ is a schism bordering on heresy. I sang this hymn so many times as a child, a teen and then as a young man. I sang it in good company along with the man the saint who wrote it, St Alphonse Liguori. We learnt a lot of theology in those days for composers of CATHOLIC hymns, Go look and see who wrote so many of our hymns. Go find out before you criticize as did the rather portly bishop at the Vat 2 debacle. He homilized, we must get rid of the awful love songs we sing in our Church today. Look what the Bishops of Vatican 2 gave us in their place. Bongo drums, untalented guitar players, choral leaders who cannot read music, the list is interminable and infinite. Sacerdotal hubris’ raises its ugly head again and again. I say as the English King said, “Who will rid us of these Bishops” and Thomas was gone.
O Bread of Heaven, beneath this veil
Thou dost my very God conceal:
My Jesus, dearest treasure, hail!
I love Thee and, adoring, kneel;
Each loving soul by Thee is fed
With Thine own Self in form of Bread.
O food of life, Thou Who dost give
The pledge of immortality;
I live, no ‘tis not I that live;
God gives me life, God lives in me:
He feeds my soul, He guides my ways,
And every grief with joy repays.
O Bond of love that dost unite
The servant to his living Lord;
Could I dare live and not requite
Such love - then death were meet reward:
I cannot live unless to prove
Some love for such unmeasured love.
My dearest God! Who dost so bind
My heart with countless claims to Thee!
O Sweetest love, my soul shall find
In Thy dear bonds true liberty.
Thyself Thou hast bestowed on me;
Thine, Thine for ever I will be.
O Mighty Fire, Thou that dost burn
To kindle every mind and heart!
For Thee my frozen soul doth yearn;
Come, Lord of love, Thy warmth impart;
If thus to speak too bold appear,
‘Tis love like Thine has banished fear.
O Sweetest dart of love Divine!
If I have sinned, then vengeance take;
Come pierce this guilty heart of mine,
And let it die for His dear sake
Who once expired on Calvary,
His heart pierced through for love of me.
Beloved Lord, in Heaven above
There, Jesus, Thou awaitest me,
To gaze on Thee with endless love;
Yes, thus I hope, thus shall it be:
For how can He deny me Heaven,
Who here on earth Himself hath given?
I make no apologies for being harsh, touching any sore spots, The Church has been so often my refuge and my strength. I will not let catechetical ignorance correct me, nor will I ask as one priest did, "Vote for my web page make me the best, most viewed." Nor will I in my way stop reminding anyone of the 4 last things especially some day soon for many of us we will have to be judged and to justify our behavior before Jesus Christ. If that is pricking any of you with a sharp stick then that is what I intended. Consider your reaction. Is it a denial of Catholic Theology? Is it an affirmation of Luther's pseudo doctrine of God's love. Is it as the infernal denial of the book of Genesis contained in the instruction no more Communions on the tongue. Work that one out for yourself. The Church teaches all revelations stopped at John. Where then did the falsehood spring from that the Body and Blood of Christ brings sin and disease into the world. Where does the dreadful inferred thought come form that says the world has a deleterious effect upon the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass (accidentally)
