Prayer and How it is for a Sincere Catholic
I have at times a few disgusting moments when I start to think about the state of prayer in the Catholic Church. Don't I urge you , to tell me or correct me about the perfection of the Mass as a prayer. I could believe you if the majority of those who come together weekly priest and people to celebrate the mass do make a truthful attempt to be in a state of grace by the use of the sacrament of confession and reconciliation. If we are not in the required state of charity how can one share in the memory of the greatest act of charity a man offered. Look at the charity of these people, they in their way cause God as Habbakuk prophesied, cause God not to see the communal act of Charity which takes place at mass because of its ugliness. Any Bishop or priest should think twice about this opinion, it is a private revelation. How quickly the Hierarchs can write laws to ease their consciences? How quickly will God call them to task? Christ did this act of charity , which we are urged to remember, to persuade His Father to give us the gift of salvation. Do you all really think that salvation is not earned by pick and shovel, using them to pry out our blasphemies and errors. If you do not then you are the bigger fools for it. Before you waffle on about a perfect act of contrition you should read the Council of Trent on Confession and the Act of Contrition. This truth published in the 1500's is a definite belief for usTherefore priests when some one comes to you for help on these occasions in their life examine them without dismissal.
One of the biggest hindrances to prayer is the foolish admonition by the Church not to believe in private revelations. Let me tell you why. If we pray and remember the most important aspect of our lives, the highest instruction Christ gave us is to Love God above all things, that is to be in a holy communion with Him. We as mankind can only communicate by a prayerful conversation with Him. Therefore whatever our circumstance from morning to night we must pray in some way. It may be prayer and or holy works but it is one or both. At first I would say it might be we are in a state of sin, grave and grievous, but we must pray. St Faustina told us the prayers of the pure are always heard. How many times I ask have you prayed for someone sick to be cured and it did not happen? Have you deeply considered and asked why in prayer. This is not questioning God. It forced you to pray and perhaps know more about your relationship with the Holy One. Can you not see He might want you to know of your relationship with Him. God is a master of his own ways and will bestow His gifts as He pleases and I cannot but believe He will whisper in our minds as we pray His sorrow for our frailties and we will begin to sorrow too. A private revelation of the best sort. He I might add has no set rules that we know off for urging us to repent as we return to Him in prayer. We can but know and count on the fact He gives the grace of prayer even to beginners. We are in His eyes little children both in power, grace and time. We are infinitesimally small but not I tell you insignificant. The Love that drives Him, which is Him, gives Him a desire we cannot comprehend, causes Him to hug us and caress us because of our wretchedness. We are little children and as such we must approach Him. Trouble is we do not expect God to be this way since we have very distorted views and opinions on the power, actions and the needs of God. We do not understand why He created us and consequently we deliberately in the case of Catholics set out to loose Him., often quoting worldly beliefs to ease our life rather than defending His instructions. It is easier to socialize ,to get by to get on. Did He not say suffer little children to come unto Me.
Prayer is a a comprehensible action of thought, word and our heart , the place wherein the center of our existence should live, that is our soul. Off course one of the most needed action in prayer is sincerity of which we are never warned. All of Prayer is as the Catechism says the raising up of the heart and mind to God. It is therefore an intelligent act of communication, of mind, mouth, and heart from the center of which we must pray and all of which must be intellectually involved. The graces which God sends us as we pray will start with sorrow and repentance. Catholics blessedly have the sacrament of confession to help us, some even receive, if as Evagrius the Solitary recommends, we pray for Compunction and receive it. Some unfortunately as per God's will go no further and that is enough as God knows what He is doing. Others reach that state which few reach and that is the grace to contemplate the Divine. Many never reach this plateau not wanting to proceed along the path they started on through prayer. They refuse the position from which God reveals many facts to them by sharing with them His concerns and it never advances further because the virtues are not complete in these souls. Some go further because the virtue of fortitude grows interiorly. Even I know they are brought to meditate on many things amongst which is the bravery of Jesus Christ. Christ's bravery is often mistaken for humility. The virtue of fortitude frightening in its powers causes them to speak out and the Church, in the main, condemns them by saying no one has to believe they are not meant for us all. Is that not a blasphemy of the Holy Spirit denying God's right to speak to whom He wishes. His communication is a little like, "He who pays the piper calls the tune?" I would think so
. Receive the grace to pray, attain to the heights of perfect prayer that is out vocation as catholic.
