Homilies I must have missed.
Seldom have I heard, in recent years that is, a homily that tells any of us how to live an evangelistic lifestyle. Now to some the gloves are off. Well look at it this way if the Parish Priest does give a proper homily and it resonates and howls in your minds, you run to him and give him heck or write immediately to the Bishop. The Bishop, as is the case nowadays, looses his nerve and reacts by tearing a strip off of the priest. Why so, that is because he has, the priest, upset parents, whose children are of many different kinds of disorders. Therefore I write, no Humanae Vitae because so many of the women of the parish tacitly or clandestinely support birth control and to ease family embarrassment all round, may even advocate that dreadful sin against creation. So many in the Church have taken a bite out of the fruit of the Tree of Life.
The Parish Priest this morning gave a stirring homily on what I call the virtue of religion, the example by which they know we are Catholic. My Father taught me every time we go past a Catholic Church approximate where the Tabernacle is and salute Him. In his case it was to raise his hat, in my case make the sign of the cross. We have symbols in our religion that justify our faith in all eyes. We kneel on the right knee entering the pews. We used to beat our breast at every Lord or Christ have mercy. We bow our heads when we hear the words Jesus Christ. A great crime, for me, is they have removed the little crosses in the Missals whereby we knew to bless ourselves at the reference to the Trinity in the Mass. There were about thirty crosses in the Latin Missal. JP2 gave a special indulgence if we blessed ourselves in a restaurant of any kind and offered up a grace before meals publicly. That is the Virtue of Religion which is not present if the Virtue of Charity is missing. This is a Catholic Church teaching by the way. We used to take communion in the mouth. The sin of pride engendered by Vatican 2 says anyone can dance around the altar or the sanctuary, anyone can handle the Body and Blood of Christ. I do not want to be the priest that says this is OK. You should read of the punishments in the Old Testament set aside for sacrilege and blasphemy of the Sacrifice. Punishments that I can assure you have gotten worse with the Fulfillment of Jesus Christ's Passion and Death. We all know, but many seldom acknowledge the immanence contained under the veil of bread and wine, after the Consecration. If we did the whole parish would be at Adoration or Quarante Ore and if we were truly holy in mind, deed and action we would willingly prostrate our selves at these times, the Consecration and Adoration.
I have yet to hear a priest tell his congregation of whom he is, that is give his job description. Never once to my knowledge has a priest told them this sacred truth. I am your spiritual guide, I am your confessor. Let me do my job. If I do not I will answer to God. Come to me in confession let me guide you into knowing and accepting salvation. I have never heard a priest say those things that will drive, yes I wrote drive, us into the confessional. We must remember I and most Catholics are lethargic, tepid and lazy minimalists, easy way out sheep, do nothing too hard or uncomfortable that is, let alone carrying our sins upon our shoulders or climbing Calvary with Him. It would be insanity in so many eyes. If we are not this way then why do we try to foster religion filling silence with loud copies of rock and roll concerts. We do it to get our attention make us enter into a prayerful liturgy, what nonsense but obviously not God's, for He loves the silence of Divine Contemplation. I find it absolutely abhorrent that no one understands Jude's words that the prayer of the pure is always heard and the purity we seek is only found in and after a good confession followed by the good works of atonement and reparation.
When will the priestly race show us loudly and clearly the advantage of confession in a way that is practical and a useful tool of charity to use at home. Do you all think that receiving Holy Communion brings salvation? The Church has never taught that the grace of the Eucharist forgives sins. All those who are Catholics who petition Blessed Mary and Her Divine Son should realize your petitions are more than likely to be blessed, if they come from the very center of a pure hearts, from the inner chamber of one's soul. What can we confidently know when we pray for our children that the prayers of a pure heart will help them immensely. How of our prayers have truly noticed to be blessed and answered.
I am amazed by the Homilies on God's Love. Never have I heard any inclusion or reference to the Song of Songs. Never do they point to the Father's wrath and acts of terrible jealous love in defence of souls. Last sermon I was present at was amusing , "We must never be critical, Christ was never critical. Let me give you some phrases and look them up in the New Testament. Matthew 23 and following, Peter get out of My sight, Vipers, serpents, you teach others who become worst than you. If God was all Love then we would be still in the Garden of Eden and Luther and his cohorts would be right we could sin all we liked because all is forgiven by Love. Well Christ is Mercy and Love. No doubt about it, but above Him is the Father and His righteousness demands Justice.
Think these words over and see Christ's Love, like his Fathers, is angry at those who commission sin.
So as the psalmist wrote and sang, "O God You know my foolishness and my weaknesses, neither are my sins hidden from you. Let not them be ashamed who look for You, O Lord the Lord of Hosts. Let not those who seek You be confounded by me, O God of Israel."
